CDI is proud to sponsor the 1st Tokyo ICC Arbitration Day

18 April 2023 – Tokyo

CDI is proud to sponsor the 1st Tokyo ICC Arbitration Day.

Over the last 6 years, CDI has acted for Japanese clients on some of Australia’s largest and most cutting edge projects. This has included acting in disputes involving ICC arbitration and adjudication arising out of the Ichthys LNG project, Japan’s largest ever foreign investment, and advising on the world-first Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain project in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria.

The time spent working closely with clients in Tokyo, Kobe and throughout Australia, as well as representing those clients in litigation, has provided CDI’s team with significant insight into the challenges facing Japanese companies carrying out projects in foreign markets.

Speaking of the benefits of international arbitration for Japanese clients, Christopher Rowden, Principal of CDI, said “Japanese clients are responsible for many of the world’s largest construction, infrastructure, oil and gas, and energy projects. The benefits of international arbitration for Japanese companies are multifaceted, and include the ability to avoid the potential uneven playing fields of domestic courts, while allowing influence over procedure in a way that works to the strengths inherent in Japanese company culture. Recognition and broad enforceability of awards across jurisdictions is a further attractive feature, as Japanese companies become increasingly global.

CDI is proud to support the 1st ICC Tokyo Arbitration Day, which will celebrate the ICC Court’s centenary and will see lawyers, corporate counsel, experts, arbitrators and mediators coming together to discuss Japanese and regional developments in international arbitration. Details are available via the ICC here.

Christopher Rowden will be in attendance in Tokyo.
